2022 PRIZM Fest: Meet your woodwind instructors!

The 2022 PRIZM Chamber Music Camp and International Music Festival is just days away! Young musicians should be ready to learn from and play alongside our talented group of performers, including these woodwind instructors. Get to know them below!

Emily Tsai 

Emily Tsai is the oboist and touring director of the internationally renowned wind quintet WindSync. 

Based in the Washington, D.C. area, she is an active freelancer and has performed with such orchestras as the Washington National Opera, National Philharmonic, Amadeus Orchestra, Maryland Lyric Opera, Allentown Symphony Orchestra, the Alexandria Symphony and others. Along with her position as adjunct oboe professor at St. Mary’s College, Emily also teaches at the prestigious Holton-Arms School, Northwestern High School for the Performing Arts and the Opal Music Studio, and has a robust private studio of both oboe and violin students.  

 

Hakeem Davidson

Hakeem Davidson earned his DMA in Clarinet Performance from Michigan State University where he was a student of Dr. Guy Yehuda. He is a regular rotating section member of the MSU Symphony Orchestra and Wind Symphony. He has performed in a variety of chamber music settings in Germany, toured as the clarinetist in the Pure Winds Quintet throughout Michigan and played for the Jackson Symphony Orchestra since 2018. In the summer of 2018, he performed in the American Modern Orchestra in New York, collaborating for performances with new composers and conductors.

Hakeem previously taught clarinet and saxophone at the Okemos Academy of Music and coached the Fresno Youth Orchestra wind section.

 

Delara Hashemi

Delara Hashemi is a freelance flutist and instructor. Delara has been performing with the Memphis Symphony Orchestra for over four years as the second flute. She also plays for chamber ensembles locally and beyond, including the Blueshift Ensemble, Shear Winds, the Gemini Duo and the River City Flute Quartet. In her free time, Delara teaches private lessons in chamber coaching and flute to young musicians across the city.

 

 

 

Shawn Jones

Bassoonist Shawn Jones is a graduate of the Juilliard School and Rice University. He has performed as a member of the Colorado and Detroit symphonies. During the summers, he has taught at the renowned Interlochen Arts Camp, performed at the Colorado Music Festival and with the Grand Tetons Music Festival Orchestra, traveled to Japan to perform with the Pacific Music Festival and toured Russia with the American Russian Youth Orchestra. 

Shawn is very active as a freelance musician in the San

 Francisco Bay area. He is a member of the Santa Rosa Symphony and Berkeley Symphony, as well as a frequent substitute with the San Francisco Symphony, San Francisco Ballet and Opera Orchestras, Symphony Silicon Valley, Modesto Symphony, Oakland Symphony, California Symphony and more.
